A mass marriage ceremony for poor couples would be held at the Munnurukapu Kalyana Mandapam here on Wednesday with assistance from Dharmapuri Trust.

Sanjay, former mayor and elder son of Rajya Sabha member Dharmapuri Srinivas, has been conducting mass marriages on his birthday for the past 10 years, personally bearing all expenses.

This year, 22 couples have come forward to get married at the function to be held in the presence of their respective parents, relatives and of course, a galaxy of VIPs.

Deputy Chief Minister Mohamood Ali, Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Rajya Sabha Members K. Kesava Rao, Captain Laxmikanth Rao and D. Srinivas, local MLA B. Ganesh Gupta, Mayor Akula Sujatha, Medak Diocese Bishop A.C. Salmon Raj and Islamic Development Bank chairman Jafer Javed are expected to grace the function.

In the 10th year of mass marriages, he said, the number of weddings that he has funded would cross 100. He arranges golden mangalasutram, silver ornaments, pattu clothes and kitchenware for each couple, apart from the wedding feast.

Sanjay instead of spending for celebrating his birthday has been doing this philanthropy which is appreciated by one and all.
