It is perhaps a mark of transparency that the State government mentioned some of its failures too in the long list of achievements which Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna recounted as part of his speech on the third Telangana formation day celebrations in Adilabad on Friday. The failure to supply drinking water became the topic of a debate among people at the venue.

The 11-page speech of the Minister, loaded with statistics, was prepared by the Information Department here based on the figures of ‘progress’ supplied by individual departments.

The statistics by Rural Water Supply Department reveal that against a plan under Calamity Relief Fund to supply drinking water by tankers to 173 habitations during 2017-18, water was supplied only to 31 habitations.

Meanwhile, celebrations were held at all government offices, including Collectorate and Zilla Parishad. A run was flagged off by Mr. Ramanna early on Friday.

At the official celebrations’ venue, the Police Parade Ground, the Minister took salute from policemen and NCC cadets, besides watching cultural programmes by schoolchildren.

Mr. Ramanna also distributed assets to beneficiaries, land pattas under Dalit Basti, vehicles and awards to a dozen persons for outstanding service in their respective fields. Collector Buddha Prakash M. Jyoti, Superintendent of Police M. Sreenivas and others also participated.
