The imposing confines of the Durbar Hall at Raj Bhavan reverberated with prayers by Muslim religious heads on Friday evening as the First Citizen of AP and Telangana, E.S.L. Narasimhan, hosted an Iftar party.

Several prominent members of the community broke their fast in the presence of the Governor, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, several Telangana Ministers, VIPs and senior bureaucrats, including Principal Secretary (Minority Welfare) Omar Jaleel.

Personal interaction

The prayers before 6.59 p.m. when the fast was broken were led by Maulana Ahsan Al Hamoomi, assisted by Maulana Azhar and Maulana Hamid Mohammad Khan and lasted for about 35 minutes. Mr. Narasimhan personally interacted with most of them and also saw off several dignitaries.

Security around the Raj Bhavan was beefed up. Apart from the presence of regular law and order police and Intelligence sleuths who kept a watchful eye, there were a large number of traffic police personnel too, regulating the traffic.
