About 1047 grams of gold worth ₹32.87 lakh was seized from two passengers who arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, on Jazeera aircraft J9 608 from Kuwait, on Monday morning.
Based on profiling of the passengers, the Customs officers of the Air Intelligence Unit recovered 10 gold bangles from them.
“The first passenger had hidden four gold bangles in his trousers, while the woman passenger had concealed six gold bangles.” “It was a bid to misdeclare before the customs officials, with the intention of evading Customs duty,” a Customs official said.
PDS rice seized
The Malkajgiri Special Operation Team of Rachakonda police arrested four persons for illegally storing rice meant for public distribution system. Police seized 30 quintals of PDS rice, 30 litres of diesel and an auto truck, worth ₹5 lakh, from their possession.
The accused procured PDS rice from agents and fair price shop owners and later sold the rice in grey market. The accused were identified as K. Venkatesh (45), K. Narayana (30), K. Vamshi (21), all three being residents of Valigonda and B. Vinod (34), a native of Bhongir.
Acting on a tip-off, the SOT conducted a raid at Tekula Somaram village in Valigonda and apprehended them.
