An Intermediate student died after falling down from an overcrowded APSRTC bus at Santoshnagar on Monday morning, the police said.

The victim, N. Keertana, 17, was an Intermediate first year student of Sangam Laxmibhai Junior College for girls at Saiabad. She was a resident of Arundathinagar. The victim took a bus from Pisalbanda Crossroads to go to her college.

As the bus was overcrowded, the victim stood on the footboard but accidentally slipped and fell down from the moving bus. She was dragged to a few feet distance before the bus driver stopped the bus on being alerted by the passengers and motorists, said Santoshangar Sub Inspector K. Veerababu.

The victim sustained serious injuries and died while being shifted to the hospital. The driver fled the spot soon after the accident. The police shifted the bus to the police station and are making efforts to nab the bus driver, the official said.
