GHMC’s early bird offer to property tax payers

April 09, 2014 11:05 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 10:23 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has announced a rebate of five per cent to those making the annual property tax payments by April 30. Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said the early bird scheme was aimed at encouraging citizens clear their property tax in advance and would be applicable to those making the payment for one year.

Under the new scheme, the civic body hopes to collect property tax of around Rs.250 crore but the target could be affected as most of the bill collectors were assigned to election related duties. Mr. Somesh Kumar cautioned that who do not pay the property tax by July would be levied an interest of 2 per cent per month.

The total property tax collection for the last year stood at around Rs.1,022 crore as against Rs.747 crore collected the year previous to it. “After the election work is completed, we will be again going to the defaulters,” he said.
