GHMC’s call for establishment of compost units in the premises of bulk generators of solid waste has received enthusiastic response, with more than 440 colonies, parks, markets and restaurants showing interest in setting up the compost units. Through a press statement, the Corporation informed that 200 colony parks, 17 major parks, 144 resident welfare associations, 93 hotels and restaurants, and five agricultural market yards in the city have established compost units.

Retail giant Walmart has established a unit in their Rajendranagar premises, following the GHMC’s decision to enforce the solid waste management rules making compost units mandatory for all commercial establishments generating over 50 kg of solid waste.

GHMC medical officers have visited hotels and restaurants and urged them to establish the compost units, besides providing them the required equipment.
