In view of restrictions imposed by military officials around Army Ordnance Corps (AOC) Centre and subsequent interim orders of High Court, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to take up improvement of alternate roads around the AOC Centre.
The civic body has decided to go for a consultancy services for preparation of a detailed project report to improve the road infrastructure around Secunderabad Military Station at AOC and a detailed study would be taken up soon.
The study would examine the existing transport network and identify issues related to traffic network operations, land use changes if road widening is required while estimating future transport and travel demand based on the existing trends. Since the convenience of traffic would be affected once the roads get closed, the consultants would have to work upon the present road network in and around the AOC Gate and indicate remedial measures.
The project would also come up with traffic surveys and classified traffic volume count to be carried out for seven days and assess the motorised and non-motorised traffic movement here, apart from origin-destination and commodity movement surveys.
The scope of work to be covered under detailed project report also mention that “If AOC closes all the main roads in AOC Military Area, then the roads connecting from Secunderabad and Alwal towards Malkajgiri, Safilguda, Moula Ali, Anandbagh, Neredmet, Sainikpuri, Vayupuri, A.S. Rao Nagar, ECIL, Cherlapally, Nagaram, Saket, Dammaiguda, Kapra, Yapral, Kowkur, Balaji Nagar, Jawahar Nagar etc., will be affected.”
Hence, the need would be for proposals to connect the affected areas that come under Malkajgiri, Kapra and partially in Alwal circles. While assessing the overall impact of the traffic disruption due to the closure of the existing roads in and around AOC Gate, the civic body seeks to have an idea on alternate new roads, roads with new formation and the need for widening of existing stretches.
