Orders have been issued by the government on waiver of interest on property tax arrears and current year dues up to March 31 and also on adjustment of interest already paid against the future tax.

GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar on Saturday informed this and appealed to those waiting for the orders to pay taxes without waiting till the month-end. And those paying the property tax before March 15 can also avail of the opportunity of getting gifts, he said.

Against a target of Rs.1,250 crore for the year 2013-14, so far only Rs. 605 crore was collected towards property tax and special measures were initiated by the GHMC to step up the collection, said a press release.

Teams were constituted in each circle and 18 special teams from the head office were deployed to extend assistance for improving results, Mr. Somesh Kumar said. A central team headed by senior officials would coordinate to collect the property tax from the top 50 defaulters.
