The GHMC is determined to remove overhanging cables across all the main roads in stages, and provide a new look to the footpaths by removing or shifting all the encroachments on them, said Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu on Tuesday.
In association with the traffic police, special drives will be taken up to remove encroachments on main junctions every week in a phased manner on identified corridors for the benefit of the pedestrians, he said. Addressing a joint coordination meeting with senior officials of the Water Board, Roads & Buildings, BSNL, APSRTC, CPDCL and the traffic police at the head office, he pointed out that the Lok Ayukta was viewing the hanging cables issue seriously. Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy is keen on improving the civic infrastructure in the capital and the municipal corporation will be coordinating with all related departments. Mr. Reddy is also slated to host a meeting of all departmental heads next month, he said. The Commissioner regretted that the enthusiasm shown before the bio-diversity summit among various department officials is missing and the same spirit should be continued to complete quality works on time.
Additional Commissioner (Traffic) C.V. Anand complained about delay in shifting poles on widened road stretches. Mr. Krishna Babu directed senior engineers of GHMC and CPDCL to meet the traffic police chief every fortnight to thrash out pending issues. Similarly, the problem of overflowing sewers on the newly laid roads should be avoided and wanted the municipal and water board officials to come up with solutions.
The Commissioner also announced that 25 owners of the 54 affected properties on metro corridor line one – L.B. Nagar to Miyapur and between Chadherghat to Model School had accepted the compensation of Rs.32,000 per sq.yard as decided by the high powered committee for Government Vested Municipal Lands.
Cheques were distributed and demolitions have begun from Tuesday with the objective to complete them within a month, he added.
