A special meeting of GHMC (Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation) to constitute Area Sabhas was postponed on Monday due to lack of quorum. While the GHMC Mayor B. Rammohan did not turn up for the meeting citing ill health, a number of corporators were conspicuous by their absence. Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin acted as the Chairman of the council in the absence of the Mayor, which was a first in the history of GHMC. The meeting was held to constitute 1,347 area sabhas for all the 150 wards. According to sources, consensus could not be reached among the local elected representatives on the selection of the candidates because of which the meeting was postponed. In the past, the constitution of ward committees too was delayed due to similar reasons.
