Haseena Begum, a home-maker from Santosh Nagar municipal circle has won ₹1 lakh in a lottery conducted by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to reward the persons segregating wet and dry garbage at their homes.
The corporation had earlier introduced ‘Swachh Doot’ App for the women in the city to upload the pictures of garbage segregation at their respective homes. The App was launched on July 13 by Minister K.T. Rama Rao.
A total of 2,903 persons downloaded the App so far, and 968 persons uploaded the pictures of garbage segregation. Draw of lots were conducted on Tuesday in the presence of Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin and Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy. Mr. Fasiuddin and Mr. Reddy emphasised on the importance of garbage segregation and said that 75% of the waste can be recycled owing to this practice. The corporation had distributed 44 lakh garbage bins at a cost of ₹29 crore towards encouraging this practice, they said. In order to fully press the bins into the service they were intended for, the corporation had initiated the reward scheme, by announcing monthly lotteries, a press release said on Tuesday.
The GHMC said 140 house owners, who had paid the property tax, were given rewards through lottery. The cash rewards were sponsored by State Bank of India. One bumper prize of ₹ 50,000 and a first prize of ₹ 25,000 were given, along with two second prizes of ₹ 12,500 each, five third prizes of ₹ 5,000 each, and 10 fourth prizes of ₹ 2,500. These apart, ₹ 1,000 was given as cash reward to 75 others.
