Motorists will soon be saved the hardship of travelling a long distance to reach Charminar and its surrounding areas from Hafeezbabanagar and Phoolbagh. The proposed road widening works on the DRDL junction to Zohra Bee Darga road stretch have been set in motion.

GHMC Town Planning has issued notices to 330 property owners whose properties are being acquired. The existing narrow stretch will soon be developed into an 80 feet wide road. A suitable compensation has also been announced for them, an official of the GHMC said. About 70 property owners have already given their consent to the authorities in this regard and the widening works are to begin soon. Officials hope that more property owners will come forward as there is a wide scope of an increase in commercial activity in the area after it is widened. The road would be passing through Moinbagh, Kunwarwadi and Rakshapuram. Once the works are complete, people from Hafeezbabanagar, Phoolbagh and surrounding areas can use the route to reach Charminar or areas like Yakutpura and Dabeerpura, thereby saving a lot of time and fuel, say the officials.

The officials hope to complete the task fast as there are no hurdles such as religious places on the stretch. The earlier proposal for widening of Edi Bazaar Banaka to Riyasatnagar road was abandoned as there are many mosques and grave yards on the route.
