Despite the subways at Koti and RTC crossroads built a few years ago being monumental failures, the GHMC is going ahead with a plan to build four subways at different locations.

Subways or underground road crossovers are proposed to be built at the Afzalgunj bus station, St. George’s Grammar School at Abids Owaisi Hospital at Santoshnagar and Mehdipatnam crossroads. Each of the subways is expected to cost Rs.3.94 crore.

The Standing Committee meeting presided over by Mayor Mohd. Majid Hussain on Wednesday approved the plans, but wanted the designs to be submitted before commencing the works.

Similarly, the committee has given its nod towards construction of new Foot over Bridges (FoBs) at Mahaveer Hospital, Koti Hospital, Care Hospital, Banjara Hills; Zoo Park and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Road No.45, Jubilee Hills.

Each of the FoBs is to be built at a cost of Rs.5.97 crore and designs have to be approved by the committee. It was also decided to charge a fee of Rs.500 for utilising the electric crematoria at Amberpet, S.R.Nagar and Punjagutta.

Three major junction improvements are slated to begin, one at Saroornagar crossroads at a cost of Rs.3.2 crore for storm water drain, footpath, railing, etc., and another at Shastripuram crossroads at a cost of Rs.4.2 crore for storm water drain, railing, footpath, kerbing, traffic signals, green belt, etc. Dabeerpura is another crossroads on the improvement plan while the Zohra Bee dargah-DRDL road widening will be expedited.

Kit for sanitation workers

All the sanitation workers covering contract and outsourced ones too along with drivers are to be provided with gloves, shoes, nose masks and raincoats at a total cost of Rs.30.62 lakh.

Following the proposals submitted by Malakpet MLA Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala, the Chanchalguda-Malakpet road is being renamed as “Hazarath Syed Talib Khundmiri road”.

Malkajgiri MLA A. Rajender’s proposal to develop the Buttonguda ‘Y’ junction to Bollarum was cleared at a cost of Rs.49.5 lakh.

The committee has also announced the members constituting the local bio-diversity committee: S. Ashok Kumar, Y.N.R. Varma (Botanists), V.C. Gupta (Unani), Salman Zafar Siddiqui (Zoology), Karamthot Tarabai and G.M. Ratna Kumar (SC &ST Corporators).
