The GHMC has begun the work on digging compost pits at 780 major and minor colony parks in the twin cities, given that 16 major parks receive at least half a lorry of organic waste daily, which is usually transported to the Jawaharnagar dump yard.
Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said on Thursday that the process of using organic waste to make manure within the parks will start from the bigger parks like Indira Park, Jalagam Vengal Rao Park, Krishnakant Park, Sundaraiah Park, Gul Muhor colony, Imlibun, Chacha Nehru. Similar compost pits would be dug at 437 parks, where the dried leaves and plant waste would be converted into manure, to be used in the same park. Municipal officials have been directed to have compost pits in their respective houses too.
Fine collected

These fines have been raised from traders located at Jubilee Hills, Moosapet, Gosha Mahal, Kapra, Serilingampally, Khairtabad and Gachibowli areas.
About 1.4 crore plastic covers, most of them below 50 microns, are being used by citizens annually. during purchase of vegetables, curry points, tiffin centres, chicken, mutton shops and for groceries. These were blocking the storm water drains, manholes, sewerage etc. Hence, apart from fines, an extensive awareness campaign is also being taken up, a press release said.
