Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Tuesday arrested GHMC Deputy Director, Urban Bio-Diversity, West zone, Karanam Kishan Rao, after he allegedly accepted ₹30,000 bribe from a contractor.

Mr. Rao tested positive when subjected to a chemical test. The Deputy Director had demanded ₹70,000 bribe from a contractor, E. Ashok Goud, to sanction ₹ 6 lakh for developing a park. Assessing the work executed by the contractor, the manager presented report that ₹5.77 lakh could be released to the contractor.

“But this has to be ratified by the Deputy Director and he demanded ₹70,000 bribe from Ashok Goud,” ACB DSP, City Range-II, V. Ravi Kumar, said. The Deputy Director agreed to process the file if ₹30,000 was paid as first instalment.

He was caught red-handed at Kamat hotel near Ravindra Bharathi by the ACB sleuths.
