GHMC chief pulls up engineering officials

May 09, 2014 11:49 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 08:00 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Perturbed at the tardy progress of desilting works in different parts of the city, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner Somesh Kumar on Friday pulled up the engineering wing and sought time bound completion of the works.

On a day when rains had left several streets in the city water logged, the Commissioner carried out an inspection at different stagnation points, including at Banjara Hills, Tolichowk, Shaikpet and Ameerpet. He expressed frustration at the attitude of the engineering officials which resulted in people having to face problems despite the civic body having sufficient funds and manpower.

On the water stagnation at Lake View Guest House, Mr. Somesh Kumar warned the executive engineer of severe action if the works there were not completed by tonight. He observed that the works were not grounded as per the specifications. The GHMC had identified 104 stagnation points on the main stretches and almost all the works were sanctioned and some have been grounded already, according to a press release.
