The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation standing committee on Wednesday cleared the budget for 2014-15 with a total outlay of Rs. 4,599 crore. This was up by Rs. 799 crore when compared to last year’s budget of Rs. 3,800 crore though the revised budget estimate was Rs. 3,156 crore.
Addressing a press conference here, Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain and GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar said a sum of Rs. 436 crore was earmarked for major roads. About Rs.35 crore was earmarked for parks, Rs.10 crore for colony parks, Rs.10 crore for protection of lakes and Rs.50 crore for construction and improvement of playgrounds and stadia, Mr. Hussain said. The public conveniences and Mir Alam Tank development was allocated Rs.25 crore.
The Mayor said 400 reverse osmosis (RO) water plants would be set up at a total cost of Rs.20 crore and 14 gateways to the city would be beautified a with heritage look spending Rs.60 lakh on each. Approaches to schools would be beautified and 18 new night shelters set up for the homeless.
Amusement park planned at Kishanbagh
Mr. Hussain assured improvement and development of periphery areas of the GHMC with Rs.300 crore under Tax Increment Financing (TIF). An amusement park proposed at Kishanbagh on five acres would be a major attraction for the Old City, he added.
