Getting a U.S. visa is a dream, but for some students it was a different experience as they received the same from the U.S. Consulate officials personally.

As part of the Student Visa Day celebrated at the U.S. Consulate in Hyderabad, the students whose visas were approved on Thursday, received it from Donald Mulligan, Chief of Consular Section.

Speaking to the students, he said at present, 1,66,000 students from India were enrolled in various U.S. institutions of higher education — up from one lakh just two years ago.

The occasion also saw an alumnus of a U.S. university and a student pursuing civil engineering from Purdue University sharing their experiences studying in the U.S.

They said the education there gave them a new perspective while exposure to classrooms that have students from across the world enriched their learning experience.

The students who were issued visas said the interaction with the visa officer was comfortable than they had anticipated.

The questions were related to university, funding, application process, interests and future plans. “We were nervous, but we learnt that one has to be honest with the answers,” they said.
