Sunshine Hospitals has introduced gender-specific knee replacement surgeries, which doctors say would be suitable for women. According to hospital surgeons, knee implants specifically meant for women would result in a better outcome. Women form two-thirds of the patients undergoing knee replacements.

Traditionally, orthopaedic surgeons use standard impl-ants of several sizes designed for both men and women. “Gender-specific knee replacement is a boon because they provide excellent long-term results,” said knee rep-lacement surgeon A.V. Guruva Reddy. Hospital surgeons told reporters that a host of studies had shown that women’s knees significantly differ in shape from men’s knees.
