A workshop on gender sensitisation brought to fore the multiple facets of the issue that is bedevilling the nation. “Gender sensitisation is not just for men. It is not always men against women. Wherever there is hierarchy, there will be a problem,” said Harish Sadani, who conducted the workshop in association with ‘I Will Go Out Hyderabad’ chapter in the city at Lamakaan on Saturday.
Sharing his experiences, Mr. Sadani, who is involved with Men Against Violence and Abuse (MAVA), said: “Social hierarchy can be created on the basis of class, caste or gender. If there is a women’s toilet and a transgender person wants to use it, women will object and harass that person. Unless we become aware of how this power over others plays out, we will not be able to reach our true potential.”
By the end of the workshop, the 30-odd participants got to understand what constitutes sexual harassment as per the latest legislation and how sexual harassment can be prevented at workplace.
