A gang of four persons from Hyderabad, which was procuring ‘charas' through their acquaintance from Uttar Pradesh and selling to customers here, was busted by police on Tuesday.

The Commissioner's Task Force DCP, Ch. Ramchander, said 2 kg of charas was seized from the arrested, Mohd. Taj, 32, Mohd. Farhan, 22, Mohd. Anwar, 24, and Mohd. Ashwaq, 20. A labourer in the slaughter house of Chengicherla on the city outskirts, Taj was looking for additional income to meet his family expenses when he ran into Saleem Bhai of Kanpur from U.P.

Saleem Bhai, who was into footwear trade and used to frequent Hyderabad, suggested to Taj to sell ‘charas' assuring him that it would pull him out of his pecuniary problems. Taj shared the plan with his other three associates and they began selling the illegal substance.

They would purchase a kilo of ‘charas' for Rs. 15,000 and sell the same to customers for Rs. 35,000. Four days ago, Bhai came to city in A.P. Express and handed over the ‘charas' to the gang at Alpha Hotel in Secunderabad. On a tip-off, the TF (West) team comprising Sub-Inspectors — Gattu Mallu, D. Santosh Kumar and K. Sunil — caught the gang and handed him over them to Langerhouz police for further investigation.
