Gambling den raided, 10 arrested

The KPHB police on Thursday raided a gambling den and arrested 10 persons. The police recovered Rs. 19,360 and nine cell phones from them. The accused persons were playing three cards game in the house of one Ravi Murali Krishna (48). “Ravi organised the gambling and collected commission from the participants,” G. Janaiah, sub-inspector KPHB said.

43 vehicles seized

The city police conducted a cordon and search operation in Asifnagar and Tapachabutra areas on Thursday. Forty-three vehicles were seized as the owners failed to produce proper documents. The police also detained 120 suspects. Among those held were alleged vehicle lifters Naushad and Aamir. About 300 policemen led by DCP (West) A. Venkateshwar Rao took part in the exercise.

Couple dies of burns

A 30-year-old man, T. Rajkumar and his wife Shobha (26) died due to burns on Wednesday night, the police said. “Rajkumar and Shobha picked up a quarrel over a family issue after which the woman doused herself with kerosene and set ablaze. Raj Kumar tried to douse the flames and also sustained burns. Both of them where shifted to Osmania General Hospital where they succumbed while undergoing treatment.
