Gadkari visit: TS readies charter of demands

The Telangana government has prepared a charter of demands, including the request to upgrade 1,018 km of State highways to national highways on priority basis, to be presented to Union Minister for Surface Transport and Shipping Nitin Gadkari who is visiting the State on Wednesday.

Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao held a meeting with the officials of the department here on Tuesday and reviewed the progress of road works taken up with an estimated cost of Rs. 10,800 crore. Mr. Gadkari will launch work on construction of a bridge across Godavari at Bhadrachalam and inaugurate upgrading of two roads at Penuballi in Khammam district (NH-221) and widening of Hagari-Raichur-Jadcharla road (NH-167) at Mahabubnagar.

The Union Minister would be urged to take up upgrading of the 230 km Hyderabad-Narsapur-Medak-Yellareddy-Banswada-Bodhan-Basar-Bhainsa for linking it to NH-61, 133 km Hyderabad-Moinabad-Chevella-Manneguda-Kodangal-Karnataka border for linking Bijapur, 220 km Kodad-Miryalaguda-Devarakonda-Kalwakurthy-Jadcherla road, 110 km Nirmal-Khanapur-Mallapur-Raikal-Jagtial road, 160 km Aswaraopet-Khammam-Suryapet road and 165 km Karimnagar-Sircilla- Kamareddy-Yellareddy-Pitlam road. Mr. Nageswara Rao said the Union Minister would be explained how Telangana was neglected in the matter of national highways stating that it had the lowest length of national highways among all southern States.

He directed the officials to complete the road works taken up under phase-one of the left-wing extremism affected areas project at the earliest so that approval could be taken for the second phase.
