The GHMC has decided to re-issue the tender called for modernising traffic signals and their maintenance for the next five years with revised guidelines.
The decision was taken following only a single firm (Keltron) coming forward to take up the Rs.25 crore project when the tenders were opened on Tuesday. The project specified that the municipal corporation would provide 50 per cent of the cost when the work commences and the rest of the money spread over the five year period.
Road markings was also part of the work. Senior officials have now decided to revise the offer to attract more parties by assuring to release 80 per cent of the project cost in the first instance and rest of the money through instalments spread over the five year period.
There are little more than 200 traffic signals in the twin cities and only a quarter of them have been modernised with LEDs (light emitting diodes).
