The Dabeerpura police booked a fresh case to inquire into threats held out against the rape victim by the accused in the old city, following a report, “Rape victim faces harassment….,” published on Sunday.

The police registered a case under sections 420 (Cheating), 507 (Criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of Indian Penal Code.

“We have registered a case as the victim said that she was cheated and is being threatened over phone by the accused,” said Dabeerpura Inspector D.V. Ranga Reddy.

“I received a phone call from the police at about 7.30 a.m. on Sunday morning asking me to come to the police station in the afternoon. The police enquired about the threats and cheating and promised to help,” said the victim, who works as a housemaid.
