Attenders at the State-run King Koti District Hospital will now have daily access to piping hot food free of cost. The scheme, ‘Bhojanamitra’, of Hare Krishna Movement (HKM), which was formally launched on Wednesday, will provide lunch to nearly 100 attenders everyday.
Having hot and hygienic food on a daily basis from restaurants is an expensive affair, as attenders have to spend money from their pockets. HKM officials said the distribution of lunch would be on production of coupons, which will be distributed in the morning. Each meal consists of hot rice, sambar, sabji (curry), pickle and buttermilk.
The scheme has been under implementation since 2011 at six hospitals including Indo-American Cancer Hospital (500 attenders), Niloufer Hospital (500), District Government Hospital, Mahabubnagar (400), District Government Hospital, Nizamabad and Bodhan (500), Maternity Hospital, Sultan Bazaar (250), Osmania General Hospital (1,000) and Mahaveer Hospital (100).
In the coming months, the scheme will be extended to attenders at Gandhi Hospital and S.D. Eye Hospital, HKM officials said. Put together, the two tertiary hospitals will have close to 1500 in-patient attenders everyday, and arrangements are being made to implement the scheme.
Recently, the scheme was introduced at OGH where close to 1,000 attenders of in-patients are being provided with free food on a daily basis.
“The scheme is well received by patients, attendants and hospital managements. The present scheme at King Koti Hospital is fully supported by members of the Signodia family,” said Sri Satya Gaura Chandra Dasa, president, HKM.
