The Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissionerates are proposed to be split into four separate units for more effective vigil in view of the recent bomb blasts.
The police will push for de-amalgamation of the existing commissionerates into Hyderabad, Hyderabad (South), Secunderabad and Cyberabad. The objective was to maintain continuity in the topography of each commissionerate, Director General of Police V. Dinesh Reddy told reporters on Friday.
Citing examples of how the geographical area could be re-aligned, he said Pahadisharif and Sanathnagar police stations are presently part of Cyberabad. In the new design, Pahadisharif will go to Hyderabad (South) and Sanathnagar to Secunderabad. All areas south of Musi will be tagged to Hyderabad (South) and Tank Bund will be the dividing line between Hyderabad and Secunderabad commissionerates. The Cyberabad Commissionerate will represent areas around its present location.
Mr. Reddy said the police will procure 3,500 high resolution cameras at a cost of Rs. 450 crore for installation in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits. Thirty-seven cameras which were donated by Information Technology companies were recently inaugurated in Cyberabad. They rotated 360 degrees and were remote controlled. They also had 24-hour backup battery, he added.
He also said the State government would come up with a legislation making it compulsory to install surveillance cameras when building permissions were sought. Once the enactment was made, the existing buildings would be given time to install the cameras. He explained that the police were already asking shopping complexes, malls, hotels, eateries and multiplexes to install cameras.
Policing will be made more visible in the coming days by standardising operational procedures. The checks that were going on in the aftermath of the blasts will no longer be temporary affair. More sub-controls of police will be opened on thoroughfares. Public will be sensitised to look for suspicious objects, he added.
