Four held for extortion bid

The accused had demanded Rs. 10 lakh from a businessman and had threatened to kill him if he failed to pay the money

The Cyberabad Police on Tuesday arrested three of a family, along with an associate, for allegedly trying to extort money from a businessman.

K. Nagendra, K. Satish, K. Durga Prasad and their friend Vijaya Bhaskar, all natives of Krishna district, had been calling up businessman G. Prasada Rao of Miyapur, demanding that he pay up Rs.10 lakh. They also threatened to kill Rao’s family if he failed to pay the amount. Mr. Rao approached police, who laid a trap and caught the accused. Nagendra, Satish and Prasad were relatives of Rao. As they sustained losses in their business, they along an accomplice Bhaskar hatched a plan to extort money from Rao.
