The Malkajgiri police on Sunday registered an SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act case against former Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy’s husband Banda Chandra Reddy for allegedly abusing a woman in the name of caste.

The case was booked based on a complaint lodged by Krishnaveni of Prashanthnagar in Malkajgiri. Mr. Chandra Reddy came to Prashanthnagar to discuss various civic problems being faced by the residents.

When Krishnaveni tried to criticise the apathetic attitude of politicians in resolving people’s problems, Mr. Reddy became infuriated and abused her in the name of caste.

He also tried to attack her with his footwear, she alleged in her complaint to the police.

Malkajgiri Sub-Inspector Jahangir said efforts were on to collect more details from the complainant and others who were at the spot.
