A local Congress leader and former corporator was injured when a person opened fire from a country-made pistol very close to his house at Old Bowenpally on Saturday morning.

D. Yadagiri, a resident of Mallikarjun Nagar, was reportedly accosted by two persons 200 yards from his house after he left on his scooter at about 11 a.m.

According to B. Sumathi, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North Zone, two men, whom Yadagiri said he identified, intercepted him on a bike, with one of them opening fire at the former corporator. “Yadagiri managed to seize the weapon from the assailant who fired at him,” she said. Ms. Sumathi said that after assault near his house, Mr Yadagiri went to a hospital near his house, where one of the assaulters had followed him and fired at him once again. But the bullet struck somewhere adjacent to his thigh, said the DCP. “Yadagiri then went to the Bowenpally PS from the hospital,” she added.

Mr Yadagiri, who is into real estate business, was also involved in a murder case under the Bowenpally PS limits, said the police.
