A 34-year-old former baseball coach of Osmania University, who later allegedly turned into a drug peddler, was nabbed by the West Zone Task Force on Monday.

The accused, Shashikanth Cherla alias Bobby, had first started procuring ganja for himself and eventually got habituated to cocaine and MDMA and later started selling the drug to others, police said.

According to the police, he had worked as a baseball coach for Osmania University from 2000 to 2012.

Bobby had been addicted to ganja since 2004, and in 2007, when he visited Goa, he got used to MDMA.

Earlier, he started procuring the drug online for himself and then began selling it to others, police said.

He had been absconding in a drug case booked by the Banjara Hills police a few months ago.

“We are also verifying if the culprit was involved in the drug racket, which is being investigated by the Excise Department,” police said.
