When sickness strikes, those who accompany patients to hospitals will hardly have time to think of food or clothes or the time that they have to be in the hospital. They leave in a hurry, often unprepared, only to realise that they may not get food for a decent price in the vicinity of the hospital.
Yadaiah, who hails from Fasalwadi, had to face such a situation when he accompanied his relative to the government hospital located in the district headquarters. Every time he had visited the hospital, he goes on a search for an eatery that does not charge exorbitant price for a simple meal. He did the same on Wednesday, but was in for a surprise when he was given food for free outside the hospital.
A humble meal of rice, dal and pickle was supplied by Syed Amjad, a resident of Sadashivapet and a tea shop owner. He has taken up the initiative of supplying free food to patients’ relatives after conducting a survey for a month on the number of patients who visit the hospital and those who accompany them. And he began providing food at the entrance of the hospital since a week.
The food is prepared by his mother, wife and other relatives, while his uncle Syed Sabeer brings it to the hospital in an auto-rickshaw.
Speaking on his initiative, Mr. Amjad told The Hindu , “I was inspired by one Shujat Ullah when I visited Niloufer Hospital. He has been providing food to the needy for quite some time and that left an impression on my mind. I then decided to emulate the same and started providing food to the poor at Sadashivapet. Now I have shifted to Sangareddy government hospital since the past one week.” He said it costs him about ₹2,300 per day and the expenditure was being met by him and his family members. More than 200 people have food every day, he claimed.
“With the help of some of my friends, we are also donating blood,” he said, adding that those in need of blood can contact him on 95053 25615.
