In spite of housing boom in Kukatpally, certain improvements in amenities fail to touch some of the localities here

In many ways, the electoral battles to capture the six wards comprising the Kukatpally Assembly constituency head for some interesting contests in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.

The Assembly constituency is represented by Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan and the party would be keen on ensuring maximum gains in these wards. However, the other main parties i.e., Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Telugu Desam and Congress too have their own pockets of strongholds and none is prepared to yield any ground.

The wards here are Fatehnagar, KPHB Colony, Kukatpally, Moosapet, Mothinagar and Old Bownepally.

The KPHB Colony, a huge housing conglomeration encompassing a vast spread, is one division which all the major contesting parties have focused their strengths on and those in fray include S. Varalaxmi (BJP), N. Srinivasan (Lok Satta) Parvathi (Congress) and D. Shobhandri (TDP).

Property issues

After getting connected with Hitech City after the spinal road came in, KPHB Colony has turned a hot spot for property issues but is not bereft of problems on civic amenities front.

Moosapet and Fateh Nagar, though both also located on the Mumbai Highway remained largely untouched by the development of other divisions. The housing boom that also brought in certain improvement in amenities has failed to touch these localities.

Mothinagar from where Byreddy Suryanarayana (Lok Satta) and P. Raghupathi Reddy (BJP) are in the fray, is also steeped in neglect on civic amenities front.

The contestants from Old Bowenpally include K. Upender Reddy (Lok Satta) and D. Shanker Reddy (BJP) and the division looks poised for some close finish.
