The police are on tenterhooks with more complaints pouring in against Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) floor leader in the Legislative Assembly, Akbaruddin Owaisi, and his scheduled appearance before the Nirmal police in Adilabad district on Monday.

Cases were booked against him for hate speeches during public meetings held in Nirmal and Nizamabad district a few days ago. Mr. Owaisi communicated to the police that he was in London for treatment and would appear before the police.

To head to Nirmal

He is expected to arrive in the city by the early morning flight and after a break at home to meet his brother and MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, head straight to Nirmal, accompanied by party supporters.

“We have no information about his arrival, but necessary steps will be taken to ensure that there is a peaceful atmosphere at the airport,” said Shamshabad DCP K. Ramesh Naidu. Security has already been tightened at the airport since Saturday following a threat call received at Mumbai airport.

The Nirmal police booked a case against Mr. Owaisi under Sections 153-A and 121 of the IPC for making an inflammatory speech on December 22 in the town and issued a notice asking him to appear before them on Monday at 10.30 a.m.

The Two Town police in Nizamabad too registered a case and directed his appearance on January 8.

Meanwhile, complaints against Mr. Owaisi continue to pour in the police stations for his hate speech. On Sunday, more than a dozen persons lodged complaints at the Malkajgiri police station.

“We have refused to accept complaints owing to jurisdictional problems,” said Malkajgiri ACP P. Radhakishan Rao.

At Paradise, Ameerpet and Secunderabad stations, supporters of the BJP, Hindu Vahini and VHP burnt effigies of Mr. Owaisi. The police immediately arrived on the spot and dispersed them. The sworn statement of Karunasagar, who filed a petition against the MIM leader, will be recorded at the Nampally court on Monday.

Tight security in Nirmal

Adilabad Staff Reporter adds: Meanwhile, the district police mobilised a large number of security personnel in view of the appearance of Akbaruddin Owaisi in court at Nirmal.

Bellampally Additional SP M. Bhaskara Rao, Utnoor Assistant Superintendent of Police Ambar Kishor Jha will oversee the bandobast.

The investigation team comprises Mancherial DSP M. Ravinder Reddy, Mandamarri CI Ch. Raghunandan Rao and Nirmal Rural CI A. Raghu.

Though the case against Mr. Owaisi under non-bailable sections of the IPC has been registered at Nirmal town police station, the rural police station has been designated as the centre for investigation into the matter.
