E-commerce player Flipkart, as part of its proposed foray into groceries space, is implementing a pilot project in Bengaluru and plans to roll out such projects in more cities, a list in which Hyderabad may figure.

The idea is to have more pilot projects ahead of the full-fledged launch that its Head of Marketplace Anil Goteti on Tuesday said is months away.

Without sharing specifics of the plan, including time frame for the launch, to tap the emerging online groceries market, he, however, said the company would be coming with very innovation and unique propositions in the space.

He said this while counting groceries and furniture among segments that may require separate warehouse facilities. Mr. Goteti was interacting with press persons here to announce the campaign to mark Flipkart’s 10th year celebrations.

Flipkart, which has around 30 such fulfilment centres in the country, added a 50,000 sq ft fulfilment centre in Hyderabad for large appliances a couple of months ago. This is in addition to the 2.2 lakh sq ft fulfilment centre, the largest such automated facility for the company, in Gundapochampally, on the outskirts of the city, that was launched in October 2015.

As regards customer base, the e-commerce firm is targeting to take it from the existing 100 million to 500 million in the next few years. “With over 28 lakh unique customers, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana together form one of the biggest and fastest growing markets in south India for Flipkart. Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Nellore, Guntur and Tirupati are the top performing cities,” a release said.
