The city police on Monday recovered cloth bundles worth Rs. 22 lakh after nabbing five persons who allegedly looted them from a lorry after attacking its driver at Bahadurpura 10 days ago.
Three other members of the gang are still at large while the lorry, which was driven away by the offenders before abandoning it at Balapur, was recovered, Joint Commissioner, City Armed Reserve, M. Shiva Prasad said at a press conference.
The dacoity committed on the intervening night of January 10 and 11 was masterminded by Syed Ghouse (22), who was a lorry driver.
He had information that huge consignment of clothes worth lakhs of rupees was being transported in a lorry and hatched the plan to loot them with the help of his associates.
The accused intercepted the truck coming from Surat in Gujarat to Devan Devdi of Mir Alam tank.
They attacked the driver, Mallappa, and cleaner, took the lorry to Balapur and shifted the consignment to a godown.
Later, they tied up Mallappa and dumped him on the road side. A hunt is on for the absconding members of the gang, Mr. Prasad said.
Mystery shrouds labourer’s death
Mystery shrouds the death of a 30-year-old farm labourer on the outskirts of the city. R. Parshuram, who went missing for the past five days, was found hanging to a tree at Chipalapally in Kandukur on Sunday. He hailed from Muralinagar village in Kandukur.
The police said Parshuram telephoned his brother Srinivas on Friday and told him about some problem. His phone was switched off since then.
A missing case was registered at Kandukur police station on Saturday.
