The Langer Houz police on Monday arrested five persons on charges of kidnapping and extorting money from a businessman six days ago at Tolichowki.

According to the police, the accused -- Mohd. Jaweed (24), Shaik Rafath (20), Mohd. Younus (30), Mohd. Azeem Khan (27) and Meer Kashif Ali (26) -- had allegedly kidnapped Meharban, a cloth dealer over some financial issues and extorted a sum of Rs. 90,000 from him.

The police said Meharban, sold clothes worth Rs. 50,000 to Jaweed, a retailer who used to sell them by moving around in different localities. Jaweed, the police said, wanted Mehraban to take back the stock he sold, as they were of inferior quality and return the money he had paid.

Hatches plan

When Meharban refused, Jaweed hatched a plan and kidnapped Meharban from Rethibowli crossroads on April 16 and took him to Hakeempet in a car and demanded Rs. 5 lakh.

However, after payment of Rs. 90,000, he was let off. Meharban later lodged a complaint with the Langer Houz police who arrested the five persons after investigation.
