Soaring temperatures last week doubled the number of fires across Telangana, with 80 fire incidents reported on Friday alone. To avoid more accidents, the Fire Department has set up two temporary fire stations in Adilabad and Mahbubnagar districts.
Around 60 to 65 fire incidents are being reported across 10 districts of Telangana, while Hyderabad has been reporting between 10 to 12 incidents everyday after the mercury rose.
“Fire accident cases are up by 50 per cent in Hyderabad and 100 per cent in Telangana. We have set up two temporary stations at Boath in Adilabad and Alampur in Mahbubnagar,” said Rajiv Ratan, Director General, Disaster Response and Fire Services Department.
Mr. Ratan said that till mid-May about 25-30 small and medium fire accidents were reported everyday across the State. “Most of these accidents occurred due to dry branches, household articles, dry grass and other electrical goods catching fire. Some are also reported from electricity transformers,” he said, and advised citizens from leaving fires unattended.
With the Fire Department launching bike services to quickly reach the accident spot , small fires are now easily being controlled.
“As our men reach the spot in time, on occasions there is no need for a fire engine at all. Each personnel is given two mist containers, along with compressed air cylinders, equivalent to carrying about 100 litres of water,” said Mr. Ratan.
80 instances of fire were reported on Friday alone and the rising temperatures are to blame
