Panic prevailed in the residential colonies around the Minister's Road in Secunderabad after fire broke out in the godown of a car accessories shop situated on the ground floor of a residential complex, on Tuesday.

The godown, which has many tyres stored, caught fire in the morning, forcing the authorities to close the Minister's Road for traffic, which led to massive traffic jams on Sardar Patel and Rani Gunj roads.

Thick plumes of smoke engulfed the entire area forcing residents in the colonies to evacuate. Many were complaining of breathlessness and burning eyes. Fire tenders were being rushed from other stations to control the fire.

Authorities did not hazard a guess as to the origin of the fire. No casualties were reported.
