Financial duress: 4 of family end life

October 07, 2013 12:20 am | Updated November 16, 2021 09:05 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Four members of a businessman’s family committed suicide at their house at NLB Nagar under Jeedimetla police station limits on Saturday night.

A couple – identified as B. Raju (44) and Rani (36) – along with their son Akshay (19) and daughter Avani (16), killed themselves by hanging.

On Sunday morning, the family members failed to respond when the milk vendor repeatedly knocked at the main door. He then peeped in through the window and found them dead.

The vendor immediately alerted Raju’s brother Venugopal, police said.

Akshay was a degree student, while Avani was a student of Class 10 student. Police inquiries revealed that Raju first ran a grocery store and later started wholesale business. As it failed to yield profits, he entered into finance business and gave loans to several people. But when most did not return the money, it sent the family into depression.

Jeedimetla Inspector M. Sudershan said Raju could have incurred debts of more than Rs.5 lakh, and this might have forced the family to take the drastic step.
