Saidabad police on Saturday caught a branch manager of Muthoot Finance for siphoning off gold mortgaged with the company.

Accused D. Anil Kumar, 34, of Kothapet, decamped from his house with 27 tolas of gold ornaments mortgaged by a customer from the Gaddianaram office in late May, Saidabad Detective Inspector G. Venkateswara Rao said.

Based on a complaint from the company, police booked a case against Kumar and arrested him.

Police inquiries revealed that Kumar had sold the gold ornaments.

Hailing from Adilabad district, he joined the company after completing his Masters in Business Administration.

The Additional Inspector said the sold jewellery was recovered from the recipients.
