The new building to house the headquarters of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of police at Lakdikapul here, which was completed nearly two years ago, was inaugurated by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Monday.
The building faced problems of shortfall in budget after most of the civil works were completed. As a result, modifications to the structure could not be carried out and air-conditioners, fire fighting equipment, lan and lifts were not erected, sources said.
The Rs. 11.57 crore building will presently accommodate only the economic offences and protection of civil rights wings, besides the zonal offices of the department.
Four more floors
The State crime records bureau, finger print bureau, women protection cell and cyber crimes wing will be shifted after four more floors at a cost of Rs. 14 crore are constructed.

The Chief Minister also flagged off 166 motorcycles of the traffic police.
DGP V. Dinesh Reddy handed over to the Chief Minister a cheque for Rs. 4 crore which was one day’s salary of the entire police force in the State towards aid to flood victims.
