An alleged dispute over selection of the cast for a Telugu TV serial led to the attack on the small screen actress, Dimple, at Manikonda on Wednesday morning. She, however, escaped with minor injuries.
In true filmi style, an unidentified woman threw chilli powder on the 23-year-old artiste of Alwal and attacked her with an iron rod and paper cutter resulting in injuries.
But she mustered courage, pushed the attacker aside and drove down to a corporate hospital in Banjara Hills in her car.
Stops car for woman
The incident occurred when Dimple, along with her assistant Mani, was going to attend a shoot at Manikonda. Soon after reaching the Manikonda church, she stopped the car on noticing a woman lying on the main road and sent her assistant to enquire.
The woman, apparently pretending to be unconscious, suddenly lunged at Mani and threw chilli powder on the assistant.
She also made a vain bid to throw chilli powder on Dimple and later attacked her.
But the actress managed to escape and drove away from the spot along with Mani, police said after recording her statement.
The actress also told police that those who sprinkled diluted acid on her fiancé and TV artiste Sridhar Verma at Malaysian Township near Kukatpally on Tuesday could be involved in Wednesday's attack.
“Based on her statement, we suspect the role of a TV artiste Selvaraj. It seems that there is a dispute between him and Verma over acting in a serial ‘Aaradhana' and this could have led to the attack,” police said.
Raidurgam Sub-Inspector G. Suresh said a case under Section 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapon) of the IPC was registered against the woman responsible for the attack and they were trying to trace her.
