While chips chiselled off the block constitute the work process for many a handicraft, filigree involves putting the pieces together towards dreamlike finesse. Karimnagar Silver Filigree craftsmen strive to take the art to newer heights with every passing day, by not repeating the patterns in any two articles. Every work of art here is a masterpiece, deserving the place of pride wherever it goes.Languishing in neglect till a few years ago, the craft has received great fillip through the Geographical Indication (GI) registration. It is now literally going places, adorning the best of the spaces, be it the President’s palace, or a foreign diplomat’s abode, says Arroju Ashok, the president of Silver Filigree of Karimnagar (SIFKA) Handicraft Welfare Society.
