In a shocking incident a man killed his two children before attempting suicide at Dundigal in early hours of Tuesday. K. Sampath Kumar (32), a DCM driver from Pandu Basthi under Dundigal police station limits is undergoing treatment at a hospital, the police said.
The children K. Rajesh (10) and Rajasree (9), both students of a private school at Borabanda, stay along with their grandmother after their mother Laxmi died in February last year reportedly due to ill health. Sampath Kumar went to the house of his in-laws at Borabanda and brought the children 10 days ago on pretext of summer vacation.
But, on Monday night, he allegedly killed the children. “It is unclear whether Sampath administered poison or throttled them. There are no external injuries and we can come to a conclusion only after forensic doctors give the report,” said Dundigal Sub Inspector R. Vidya Sagar.
The incident came to light on Tuesday after Sampath’s neighbours grew suspicious over his behaviour and enquired about the children. On not getting any satisfactory reply, the locals barged into the house and found the children dead, the police said.
On receipt of information the Dundigal police rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to Gandhi Hospital morgue where a post-mortem examination was conducted. Reasons for the killing are yet no clear. “After killing the children, Sampath also consumed poison and is under observation. We can know the reason only after we question him,” Mr. Sagar said.
