It was an extended college life for a group of budding software engineers. Hailing from Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam, these youngsters were elated when they were recruited by TCS during their campus placements.
With dreams in their eyes, nine students from MVGR Engineering College in Vizianagaram came to the State capital three months ago to undergo training in the swank TCS campus, Madhapur. They successfully completed training and were waiting for their project. To seek divine blessings before start of their professional career, these young techies decided to visit the Shrine of Shirdi Saibaba.
They boarded the Shirdi-bound Sree Kaleswari Travels Bus on Friday night but fate willed it otherwise. The budding professionals met with an accident after the bus fell off a bridge on Friday night in Osmanabad district. Out of 13 employees, nine youngsters died in the ghastly road accident while three others escaped with injuries.
The status of another person was yet to be established, company sources say. “It’s shocking news for us. We were in touch with each other till yesterday evening, but today morning we heard the news that they met with an accident,” their friend Naresh says with tears welling in his eyes.
Divya was one among the nine young techies from the college who underwent training here. She, along with her colleagues, and sister Deepti boarded the bus. The twins — Divya and Deepti – lost their lives in the accident. Their father Jagadish runs a medical store at Visakhapatnam. He and his wife Laxmi boarded a flight to reach the city by Saturday night.
Company Regional Head Rajanna, in a statement here, expressed shock over the incident and said that they were providing all support needed for the affected families.
