Farmers, scientists interface at ICAR-CRIDA national conference

Krishi Vigyan Kendras at Adilabad, Medak and Visakhapatnam proposed

The need for promoting biodiesel to reduce load on petroleum products was stressed at a farmer-scientist interface held under the chairmanship of Dr. Sammi Reddy, Director, ICAR-CRIDA.

About 1000 farmers from various villages of Ranga Reddy district, scientists, extension personnel, staff of Department of Agriculture, participated in the meeting to view the web telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated the biennial national conference of KVKs ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) campus in New Delhi.

Satyanarayana, from the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) recalled the emphasis laid by the PM on minimising the use of petroleum products and the new scheme “Gobar-Dhan Yojana” launched by the government to use cow dung for producing biogas, which is very cost effective and practical. N. Gallaya, sarpanch of Narepally village appreciated the efforts of CRIDA in Swach Bharat Mission, which was implemented in the village, wherein several species of trees were planted as a part of afforestation. M. Babu, sarpanch, Gummadivalli, acknowledged the technological interventions of KVK, CRIDA in farm machinery component.

Mr. Sammi Reddy, Director, ICAR-CRIDA explained the several ways to reach the objective of doubling farmers’ income. He said the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for 25 KVKs across the country in addition to the existing 688 KVKs. Out of new 25 KVK’s, two KVKs at Adilabad and Medak of Telangana and one at Visakhapatnam of Andhra Pradesh have been proposed. He also talked about the e-portal for organic farming ‘jaivikhethi.com’.
