Farmers make their point

July 27, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Tuesday’s ‘maha dharna’ could soon yield a sizeable purse for Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, ostensibly for changing his spectacles.

Responding to Ms. Brinda Karat’s mocking plea to the farmers from the Chief Minister’s constituency to contribute liberally for buying a pair of spectacles for Mr. Rao so that he could see the reality, many farmers came forward to donate in Rs.100s and Rs.200s.

Ms. Karat, ridiculing the contention that the protests against land acquisition were motivated and went against development, projects and electricity, advised Mr. Rao to change the spectacles and see the travails of the farmers.

Even as Ms. Karat was speaking, a farmer rose to donate Rs.100 note for the spectacles.

He was followed by a group of women from Mucharla village in Ranga Reddy district, who donated Rs.200. – Staff Reporter
