Thousands offer prayers, take out rallies on the Prophet’s birthday
Thousands participated in processions taken out from different places in Old City and other parts of the city on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi marking prophet Mohammed’s birth anniversary on Friday.
As Milad-un-Nabi fell on Friday, large congregations of namajis attended the noon prayers at Mecca Masjid near Charminar and other mosques in Old City. Over 8,000 namajis offered noon prayers at Mecca Masjid.
The Chilla inside the historic Charminar was kept open for offering Salam till 9 a.m. Many visited the Chilla and offered Salam. The Charminar and surrounding areas were, however, barricaded with barbed fire fencing and police contingents after 9 a.m. to ensure no untoward incident was reported.
Namajis coming out of Mecca Masjid after completion of noon prayers started in a rally. It passed by Charminar traffic and law and order police stations before heading towards Gulzar House. From there, the procession passed through important localities of Old City.
Stages were erected by voluntary organisations and political parties offering drinking water and fruits to those taking part in the rallies. Blood donation camps and essay writing competitions were organised by some organisations .
